Colon Hydrotherapy or Colonic Irrigation is where waste material is gently removed from the large intestines using warm, purified water. You may think that this complementary treatment is something new, however it actually dates back to ancient Greece. The physicians of the time, knew even then, that toxins from the environment and the wrong diet could creates toxic waste that impacts the health and well being of the body. Nurses would administer colonics in NHS hospitals up until the 1960’s before operations and surgery.
Here at Homefield, we use “state of the art” high quality colonic equipment. Our Colonics are not the messy self administered type, that people will tell you horror stories about! (which are not true colonics anyway – they are actually enemas and not effective at clearing the bowel effectively).
At Homefield, our Colonics are carried out by registered, experienced and highly qualified professionals, who have invested time and money on achieving the highest training in the country. This ensures your treatment clean, painless and odourless. If you are considering having this therapy done, check that your practitioner is a member of the Association of Registered Colon Hydrotherapists, (ARCH).

We live in a toxic age, with many of us drinking and eating the wrong things. A stressful world takes its toll on the colon and our digestive health. If you’ve been eating badly, consuming too many teas and coffees, been under stress – this all impacts gut health, quality of your skin, your weight and your energy levels. Clients often tell us, having a treatment offers them that clean slate feeling to begin ‘anew. ‘ Colonics can be a powerful motivator to eat well and look after themselves better.
We often hear that it helps with digestive issues, constipation, sluggish bowels, gas, bloating and IBS type symptoms. Everyone is different however and results are varied.
If your’re after younger, clearer looking skin, it’s absolutely essential for good results to start cleansing from the inside out. Your gut health and beauty go hand in hand. The human body is holistic, which means that one organ reflects the health status of another. If you’re struggling with acne, spots, skin irritations, your cells on the inside are experiencing exactly the same thing.
High Blood Pressure
Diverticulitis & Crohn’s Disease
Fissures/Fistuals, (if active or bleeding)
Hemorrhoids, (when bleeding)
Recent Abdominal Surgery
The above are general guidelines. Every person is unique and we will only carry out treatment after reviewing your medical and health questionnaire first.
This is very subjective to the individual client. It will depend on what you want to achieve and where your starting from. If your condition has been going on for years, one treatment will not be enough. We recommend for optimum results, select a course of 3 treatment during a one month period.
Following on from your initial course, to maintain and support your new dietary and lifestyle improvements, we suggest 3-4 individual treatments per year.
Often clients do lose weight and feel lighter after a colonic. The most powerful results that happen with a colonic happen on the inside and can’t be measured by a pair of scales. If you come for regular treatments and follow our dietary and lifestyle advice, you’ll certainly begin to see the scales move in the right direction.
You’ll feel fine to carry on with your normal day. Drive, swim, laugh and play. Many people feel lighter and brighter. We would certainly recommend you refrain from over eating, or eating a heavy meal after your therapy. Occasionally some clients feel tired, but in a good way. Our bowel is regarded as our second brain. Letting go of a lot of old crap from the gut, often releases a lot of old crap from the mind as well!
Yes, as long as you feel comfortable to do so. Remember to bring some additional tampons or towels with you for use after treatment.
Your digestive system is designed to keep you alive and well. It’s function is to supply the body with water, energy, vitamins and minerals from our food and drink. When the bowel and digestive system is working well, we feel well. Here are some helpful tips that your bowel would share with you if it could talk…
Fibre is a vitally important part of a healthy diet and keeps your bowel moving regularly. Chose wholegrain, pumpernickel, rye, amaranth or buckwheat bread for sandwiches or toast. Jumbo unrefined porridge oats would be an excellent breakfast choice. Choose fruit and chopped raw veggies for a healthy fibre filled snack instead of the choccie bar or a packet of crisps. Why not sprinkle some raw seeds into your salads or soups.
Avoid Processed Meats
We’re not saying that you have to give anything up, however studies show the more your diet contains bacon, ham, salami, sausages, burgers, or any processed meats, the higher your chance of bowel issues will be. These foods need to be regarded as an occasional treat. Try having chicken, fish or a vegetarian option instead. Why not have two vegetarian days per week. Healthy alternatives could be beans, legumes and lentils.
Tea and coffee can de-hydrate the bowel, causing constipation and irritability. Why not try green tea, herbal teas, green juices and smoothies every now and again. Your bowel will love you for having alcohol free days. Alcohol in general needs to be regarded as a treat, not an every day occurance.
A sedentary lifestyle is the new smoking. If you expect your bowel to work well for you when your’re sitting on your backside all day, think again. It’s not about joining a swanky gym – simply begin to walk for 15 mins every day and build up to 30-40 minutes per day if you can. Walk to work, walk to the shops, get out your bike, offer to help out at your local animal shelter and walk a dog in need. The longest living people in the world exercise. It’s so important for your mood, your weight and your bowel health.
Take Your Time
The world is a fast, stressful place. Ensure you take time to chew your food well, make eating important and concentrate on what your eating. Sit on the toilet regularly and get into a routine for emptying your bowel. Your body loves routine, so even if you don’t have the urge to go, sit on the loo for a few minutes at the same time every day. Your bowel can be trained and educated to eliminate for your daily – just give it the time and space.
A good old belly laugh is the perfect way to help the bowels move. We use our stomach muscles to laugh. Watch a funny movie or your favourite comedian on You Tube. Sometimes life can be demanding and we forget to have fun with it.
Diet, Intolerances, Lifestyle Habits
All of the above can have a massive impact on your bowel, health and well being. If you want expert advice on looking after yourself better, why not book a nutritional consultation, or find out what foods may not be right for you with our intolerance testing. We’re here to help.
Your colonic treatment could also include a herbal or coffee enema to help remove stagnant waste and help the liver detoxify. Your practitioner may also recommend dietary and nutritional advice to help you long term maintain your goals.

This photo taken ten days after my first HydraFacial treatment, I love the brightness it's given me, it's really made my skin glow. When results like this are so visible after the first treatment, a HydraFacial is now a part of my monthly beauty routine at Homefield.
It was wonderful to be able to find somewhere to go in the UK that is such a high standard a real 5* health experience. The staff were lovely, everyone so friendly and helpful. I’ve been a detoxer for years, and yet I've learnt a lot of new things, especially kitchen time spent with Hans, learning a new way of raw food cooking which I’ll be using all the time… the food, honestly is just delicious and fresh. Live blood analysis was amazing……..I saw a huge shape change in a week (a lot of exercise went into it too) and have booked again already!*
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Homefield Grange. Such a warm welcome and relaxing atmosphere as soon as you arrive. Sara my therapist was very friendly and professional. First she undertook a free skin analysis to understand my skin issues. Then Sara explained the HydraFacial treatment in layman terms so I understood exactly what would be happening. Also Sara was happy to answer all of my questions. The experience was very relaxing and pain free and the results were fantastic. My skin immediately felt firmer and my soft lines vanished. After my HydraFacial my face looked relaxed and my skin was glowing. For anyone wanting to support their skin care regime with a regular facial then this treatment is an absolute must. I thoroughly recommend the HydraFacial treatment at Homefield Grange.
