Colon Hydrotherapy

What is a Colonic?

A Colonic is an internal bath that helps cleanse the colon of poisons, trapped gas and accumulated faecal matter and mucus deposits.  Colonics have been used and recorded since 1500BC and have been used in both traditional and naturopathic medicine since that time.

How is the treatment Performed?

Using a small sterilised scope, warm filtered and purified water is gently introduced to the colon by small tubes.  Contrary to a lot of fairy tales, there is no pain, no discomfort, no smell, no mess and no embarrassment.  There has never been any case of bowels exploding, the water is far too gentle for that misconception to ever happen.  Your dignity is maintained throughout the treatment by a disposable gown and your experienced therapist is on hand throughout to ensure the treatment goes smoothly and correctly.  You just lay back and relax whilst your body gets the perfect cleanse.  Comforting massage techniques are often given by your therapist to make it an enjoyable and beneficial experience. 

What are the benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy?

Correct functioning of the colon is a necessity for good health.  It has been stated that bowel malfunctions can lead to 80% of all illnesses.  If you suffer with poor digestion, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, chronic constipation or diarrhoea, these are usually accompanied by auto intoxication, in other words, literally, "self poisoning" (the re-absorption of soluble wastes into the bloodstream).  When this happens there is a very heavy burden placed upon the other eliminative organs of the body, the kidneys, skin and lungs.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?

Your first visit will involve the taking of a case history and the therapist will give you a full explanation again of the procedure.  No special measures are needed by you prior to the first session.  Normally allow an hour for the initial treatment and thereafter around 50 minutes.  After treatment your therapist may recommend certain dietary advise to educate your choices of food a little better.  Most of us could do with  a little help in the minefield of nutritional information out there.

How Many Treatments will I need?

If this is your first treatment it is very difficult for your therapist to state how many colonics are needed until the first treatment is completed.  During the first cleanse, whilst enjoying immediate and enormous benefits, it is unlikely that all toxins and old matter will be removed from the body.  This is also dependant upon past diet, age, lifestyle and any inherited health problems.  Your therapist will recommend the number of initial treatments required to help your condition and also on how frequently follow ups are needed to remain in a healthier state.  Decisions on how soon to return are always offered as a guideline only. 

I have heard that Colonics strip the body of all goodness and that too many Colonics are bad?

Both these are untrue.  Within 48 hours the body has re-established its normal levels of friendly bacteria.  After each session your therapist will give a capsule to re-introduce everything the colon needs immediately.  Colonics has shown to improve health, not hinder it!

What will happen afterwards?

There is no problem in you driving your car or returning to work immediately.  This treatment strengthens your bowel, not weakens it.

I have heard about Mucoid Plaque, what is this?

Mucoid plaque is a combination of old mucus deposits, food wastes, heavy metals from pollution that we breathe in, amalgam fillings, drug or medication residues and trapped faecal material.  Many people say that this forms and attaches itself to the lining of the colon, giving it its unique appearance.  This plaque is a breeding ground for parasites, candida, worms and other disease causing bacteria.  Colonics will gently wash the plaque out of the body, leaving it cleaner, lighter and certainly healthier.
